Samantha Barks, acclaimed for her role as Elsa in the West End production of Disney’s ‘Frozen’, is set to return to the stage at Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Barks, who led the cast when the show opened in 2021, had taken a hiatus for maternity leave, with Jenna Lee-James stepping in during her absence.
Marking her comeback, Barks will rejoin the production from 7 February 2024. Additionally, she will grace the stage during Disney Theatrical’s segment in the Royal Variety Performance, broadcasted on ITV1 on 17 December 2023. This special event will feature an array of performances from iconic Disney shows, including ‘The Lion King’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, and ‘Hercules’.
Barks, renowned for her diverse theatrical career, has starred in productions like ‘Chess’, ‘Pretty Woman’, and ‘Les Misérables’. Her film credits include a standout performance as Eponine in the film adaptation of ‘Les Misérables’. She has also served as a judge on ITV’s ‘Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream’.
‘Disney’s Frozen’ at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, directed by Michael Grandage, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and a book by Jennifer Lee, has garnered critical acclaim since its opening in August 2021. The production boasts seven WhatsOnStage Awards and four Olivier Award nominations.
Barks rejoins a talented ensemble, including Laura Dawkes as Anna, Jammy Kasongo as Kristoff, and Craig Gallivan as Olaf. The show, which has captivated audiences with its magical storytelling and stunning visuals, is currently booking through June 2024.
