‘Romeo + Juliet,’ Starring Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor, Announces Dates, Venue, and Design Team

The highly anticipated Broadway production of Romeo + Juliet, featuring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler in the lead roles, has officially set its dates, venue, and design team. Directed by Sam Gold, the production will commence performances on September 26, with the official opening night slated for October 24. This strictly limited 16-week engagement will take place at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre.

The creative team for this fresh take on Shakespeare’s classic includes scenic design by two-time 2024 Tony Award nominee dots, costume design by 2024 Tony Award nominee Enver Chakartash, lighting design by two-time 2024 Tony Award nominee Isabella Byrd, sound design by two-time 2024 Tony Award nominee Cody Spencer, and production stage management by Rachel Bauder.

In addition to the stellar cast and design team, the production will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff and choreography by Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh.

Described as an ‘intrepid’ interpretation, the production’s synopsis reads, ‘The youth are f**ked. Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way.’

With such a talented team and innovative vision, this production of Romeo + Juliet promises to offer a compelling and contemporary perspective on one of Shakespeare’s most enduring tragedies.
