Building off the success of the movie musical adaptation of Hamilton, reports have confirmed another musical is being adapted for the Disney+ streaming service.
Based on the 1985 novel My Love, My Love Disney+ plans to bring Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahren’s one act musical Once On This Island to the screen.
Playwright Jocelyn Bioh has been confirmed to write the script and Wanuri Kahiu is set to direct the production.
The original production ran on Broadway from 1990-1991 and debuted in 1994 on the West End. The production won an Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 1995. The most recent Broadway incarnation, directed by Michael Arden, won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
Casting for the movie musical has yet to be announced.
