Kym Marsh Takes the Lead in ‘101 Dalmatians’ Musical Tour

Kym Marsh is gearing up to play the notorious Cruella de Vil in the upcoming national tour of “101 Dalmatians,” a musical inspired by the 2022 Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production. This reimagined show features music and lyrics by Douglas Hodge and a script by Johnny McKnight, adapted from Zinnie Harris’s stage version.

The story revolves around a couple overwhelmed by a sudden influx of dogs, which soon attract the attention of fashion-obsessed Cruella de Vil. Marsh, best known for her role in “Coronation Street,” expressed excitement about portraying what she called “the most fabulous baddie.” She joked about the stark contrast between her real-life persona and her character, much to the relief of her own dogs.

Marsh shared her enthusiasm for the role, noting, “It’s a real treat to bring to life my take on this renowned character. Douglas and Johnny have crafted a brilliant musical that’s as catchy as it is charming. It’s a story that appeals to all ages, and I’m sure audiences will love it.”

The tour kicks off in Wimbledon on June 22, 2024, and will travel to cities including Birmingham, Manchester, and Dublin, with performances scheduled through to York and Brighton. However, Marsh will not be performing in certain cities like Norwich, Canterbury, and Oxford.

The production team includes director Bill Buckhurst, set designer David Woodhead, costume designer Sarah Mercadé, and choreographer Lucy Hind. The team is completed by musical supervisor Alfonso Casado Trigo, orchestrator Jack Hopkins, puppet designer Jimmy Grimes, and lighting and sound experts James Whiteside and Chris Whybrow, respectively.

“101 Dalmatians” promises to be a lively and engaging musical experience, bringing together a talented cast and creative team to retell a beloved classic in a fresh, new way.
