Jonathan Groff to Star as Bobby Darin in New Broadway Musical ‘Just in Time’

Jonathan Groff is set to return to Broadway in the upcoming musical Just in Time, where he will take on the role of legendary singer-songwriter Bobby Darin. Known for classic hits like “Beyond the Sea,” “Mack the Knife,” and “Splish Splash,” Darin’s life and career will be the focus of this world premiere production. Groff, who recently won a Tony Award for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, will also serve as a producer on the show, alongside Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens, and John Frost.

Directed by Alex Timbers, the show will begin previews at Circle in the Square Theatre on March 28, 2025, with an official opening night on April 3, 2025. The theatre is currently home to Romeo + Juliet, which is set to close on February 16. Just in Time features a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, with choreography by Shannon Lewis. The production, which will include a live big band and a cast of 16, is based on a concept by Ted Chapin.

The musical aims to capture the charisma and talent that Darin brought to the stage, focusing on his electrifying performances and his impact on the entertainment world. The blend of Timbers’ dynamic directing style with Darin’s signature music and compelling life story promises to create a memorable Broadway experience.

Groff, widely known for his roles in Merrily We Roll Along, Hamilton, and Spring Awakening, has also appeared in television and film, including Mindhunter, Looking, Frozen, and The Matrix Resurrections. Just in Time will showcase his versatility as both an actor and a producer, adding another significant achievement to his already impressive career.
