George Clooney-Led Good Night, and Good Luck Finds Broadway Home

Broadway Welcomes the Stage Adaptation of the Acclaimed Film, Set for March 2025 Premiere

New York, NY — The eagerly awaited Broadway adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck, co-written by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, has officially secured its theater and opening night. The production will take place at the Winter Garden Theatre, with previews starting on March 12, 2025, and the official opening night scheduled for April 3.

American actor George Clooney poses as he arrives at the Omega Le Jardin Secret party in Shanghai, China, 16 May 2014.
Hollywood actor George Clooney was the star attraction at Le Jardin Secret, a gala dinner hosted by Omega in Shanghai on Friday (16 May 2014) evening. The event was designed to showcase Omegas Aqua Terra collection for the assembled crowd of VIP Chinese customers, as well as local and international media. Gathered in a boutique hotel, surrounded by gardens in Shanghais French Concession area, guests were treated to several acts of the George Clooney show. The recently engaged star took to the stage to answer questions posed by the emcee, and then again to pay tribute to Omegas charity partner, Orbis, a flying eye hospital working in China and around the world to treat preventable blindness.

Tickets for this historical drama will be available to American Express Card Members beginning November 12 at 10 AM ET, followed by a fan pre-sale on November 14 at 10 AM ET. General ticket sales will commence on November 15 at 4 PM ET, and interested attendees can register for pre-sale access at GoodNightGoodLuckBroadway.com.

Good Night, and Good Luck is based on the 2005 film that received widespread acclaim for its depiction of the confrontation between journalist Edward R. Murrow and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy, a key figure in the anti-communist hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). The title refers to Murrow’s iconic broadcast sign-off, reflecting the story’s themes of integrity in journalism.

David Cromer will direct the stage adaptation, offering a new interpretation of this compelling narrative. The production explores the moral clarity that characterized Murrow’s work, which feels increasingly rare in today’s media landscape. The immediacy of early live television broadcasts, so effectively portrayed on stage, enhances the impact of the story in a live setting.

Clooney, who directed the original film and portrayed Fred W. Friendly, will assume the role of Edward R. Murrow in this theatrical version, stepping into the shoes of David Strathairn’s on-screen performance.

The Broadway season is shaping up to be star-studded, featuring other prominent film actors making their theater debuts, including Robert Downey Jr. in Lincoln Center Theater’s McNeal, Jim Parsons and Katie Holmes in Our Town, David Hyde Pierce in Roundabout’s The Pirates of Penzance, and Denzel Washington alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in Othello, among others.

As excitement builds for the Broadway premiere of Good Night, and Good Luck, audiences can anticipate a powerful reminder of journalism’s role in holding those in power accountable, resonating profoundly in today’s media climate.
