68th Annual Drama Desk Awards Nominations Announced

The nominations for the 68th Annual Drama Desk Awards have been revealed, with standout productions such as ‘The Outsiders,’ ‘Stereophonic,’ and the off-West End hit ‘Dead Outlaw’ leading this year’s list.

The Drama Desk Awards, which recognise excellence in New York theatre across Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off-Broadway productions, are determined by theatre critics, journalists, editors, and publishers who cover the scene. This year’s nominators evaluated shows from the 2023-24 New York theatre season.

Continuing the trend set in previous years, the awards have maintained gender-free performance categories. These include Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Featured Performance in a Play, and Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical. Each category now hosts twice the number of nominees compared to the traditional gendered categories, with voters casting two votes per category and each category declaring two winners. In the event of a tie, more than two winners may be announced per category.

The ceremony for this year’s Drama Desk Awards is scheduled for 10 June at The Skirball Centre for the Performing Arts.

For those interested, the full list of nominees is now available, showcasing a diverse array of talents and productions that have made significant impacts on the New York theatre landscape this season.
