Singin’ in The Rain, like many musicals across the country and the world, are allowing company members to “takeover” posting on their official Instagram account in order to give fans an unprecedented insight into the behind-the-scenes life of the show.
This week’s takeover is being run by Rohan Browne, who plays leading man Don Lockwood (a character famously created by Gene Kelly in the 1952 film), and he just won the musical theatre internet award with this amazing post about Gene Kelly’s original shooting script, his handwritten notes and a publicity image!

For all the fans out there who discovered the movie before the musical it's hard to NOT think of Gene Kelly when you think of Singin In The Rain. On my most recent trip to LA I had the pleasure of meeting his wife and having access to the wonderful archives of his life. The production photo top left is the original from the set. (can you believe Gene was sick as a dog when he shot that wonderfully joyous title song?!) The top right is me, @rohanmbrowne, holding Genes original shooting script, remember he also co-directed the film?!? The bottom left is his notated Singin In The Rain sheet music with his choreography notes – you can see he says "put umbrella on shoulder on gliss" before his first vocal entry. Amazing history. And the bottom right is an original promotion shot for publicity. Incredible stuff. If you are a true Gene Kelly fan, head to @genekellylegacy. If you're a Singin In The Rain fan and live in Sydney, we close this Saturday so now's your last chance. And Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth – we are comin for ya!! #singinau #singinintherain #theatre #musicals #musicaltheatre #history #dance #donlockwood #genekelly #genekellylegacy
