Jersey Boys

We kick off our “Featured Show” initiative with the hit musical Jersey Boys, currently playing at the Theatre Royal in Sydney.

Jersey Boys, the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons recently celebrated its 750th show in Australia. A press release has announced that over 900, 000 patrons have seen the show already (Melbourne and Sydney combined), and from July 6 to September 21, the cast will be performing Wednesday matinees at 1pm! This smash hit musical is showing no signs of slowing down, and AussieTheatre.com has decided to feature Jersey Boys this month in honour of its success in the Australian music theatre scene.

The show opened in Sydney on 18 September 2010 after playing at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre for 14 months. It has won awards left right and centre, including:

  • Best Musical at the 2010 Helpmann Awards
  • Best Musical Direction at the 2010 Helpmann Awards (Luke Hunter and Ron Melrose)
  • Best Musical at the Sydney Theatre Awards
  • Best Actor in a Musical (Bobby Fox) and
  • Seven Victorian Green Room Awards

Boasting over 450 sellout performances at last count, and featuring all the hits of the Four Seasons including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man and many more, Jersey Boys has certainly enjoyed a stellar run in Australia so far.
Over the coming weeks, AussieTheatre.com will feature interviews with some of the current cast members of Jersey Boys  and interesting facts about the show. We encourage you to comment on articles and features and tell us about YOUR Jersey Boys experiences, too!

Our first featured interview is with Elise Brennan, who is playing Mary Delgado in the Sydney production.
