Broadway’s biggest night returns this weekend, with the 79th Tony Awards set to celebrate the best of the 2025 to 2026 Broadway season live from Radio City Music Hall in New York.
Hosted by global pop superstar P!NK, the ceremony will take place on Sunday, 7 June in the United States, meaning Australian audiences will be tuning in on Monday, 8 June.
The main ceremony begins at 8pm ET in New York, which converts to 10am AEST for viewers in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT. For South Australian and Northern Territory viewers, the ceremony begins at 9.30am ACST, while Western Australian audiences can watch from 8am AWST.
For Australian viewers, Paramount+ Australia is the key streaming destination. The 79th Tony Awards will stream live on the platform on Monday morning, with the full awards show also expected to be available on demand later that day for subscribers.
Before the main ceremony, audiences can also follow The Tony Awards: Act One, the pre-show that begins at 6.35pm ET in the United States. In Australia, that converts to approximately 8.35am AEST, 8.05am ACST and 6.35am AWST on Monday, 8 June.
The pre-show is hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess and includes the first round of Tony Award presentations before the televised ceremony begins. In the United States, the pre-show is available through Pluto TV. Australian availability may depend on local platform access, but Paramount+ Australia has listed coverage from the Act One window.
The main Tony Awards ceremony will run for three hours in the United States, finishing at 11pm ET. For Australian viewers, that means the broadcast is expected to conclude around 1pm AEST, 12.30pm ACST and 11am AWST.
This year’s ceremony closes a smaller Broadway season than usual. Just 30 new Broadway productions opened during the eligibility period, down from 42 the previous year. Even so, the awards remain highly competitive, with several musical and play categories shaping up as closely watched races.
The Best Musical nominees are THE LOST BOYS, SCHMIGADOON!, TITANÍQUE and TWO STRANGERS (CARRY A CAKE ACROSS NEW YORK). Each nominated musical is expected to be represented in the ceremony’s performance line-up, giving audiences a chance to see how the season’s major new shows translate to the Radio City Music Hall stage.
The Best Revival of a Musical nominees are also set to perform, including CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL, RAGTIME and THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW. Those numbers are likely to be among the most anticipated moments of the telecast, particularly given the scale and visual identity of CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL and the emotional sweep of RAGTIME.
The ceremony will also include special anniversary performances. CHICAGO will be celebrated for its 30th anniversary, with P!NK expected to take part alongside Queen Latifah and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. THE BOOK OF MORMON will also mark its 15th anniversary with a reunion involving members of the show’s original Broadway cast.
Australian audiences will have added reason to watch, with Rose Byrne among the prominent Australian names recognised this season. The ceremony is also expected to feature a wide roster of Broadway and screen talent, with Daniel Radcliffe, Keanu Reeves, Neil Patrick Harris, Jean Smart, John Lithgow, James Corden and Lea Michele among the names linked to the night’s presenter line-up.
In the United States, the Tony Awards will air live on CBS and stream through Paramount+. Premium-tier subscribers in the US can stream the ceremony live, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers can access the broadcast on demand after it airs.
For Australians, the simplest option is Paramount+ Australia, which has listed the ceremony as streaming live from New York and available on demand later the same day. Viewers planning to watch live should check their app or streaming device ahead of time, particularly if tuning in for the morning pre-show.
The 2026 Tony Awards arrive after a season marked by a smaller number of new musicals, a strong field of plays and several high-profile revivals. The broadcast will bring that season to a close, while also offering Australian theatre lovers a rare live window into Broadway’s most prominent annual celebration.
For viewers in Australia, the key details are simple: Monday, 8 June, from approximately 8.35am AEST for the pre-show and 10am AEST for the main ceremony, streaming on Paramount+ Australia.
