Rob Mills will star in the production as Danny Zucko and rising star Gretel Scarlett has been cast as his leading lady, Sandy. It is understood that Mills, who is currently performing as Warner Huntington III in Legally Blonde will leave the Legally team toward the end of their Melbourne season to commence rehearsals for Grease in July.

John Frost, who has produced every production of Grease in Australia except one, told the media this morning that he is thrilled to be bringing this 40 year old musical back to its rightful home – the proscenium arch theatre.

Grease will commence it’s 2013 tour in Brisbane from 27 August Sydney, with seasons also scheduled for Melbourne and Sydney. Nothing further has been announced at this stage, but Frost didn’t rule out the possibility of future seasons across the country.

“We will see what life has to offer us after [the Melbourne season]” he said.

Also present for the cast announcement today were Todd McKenney (Teen Angel), Lucy Maunder (Rizzo), Bert Newton (Vince Fontaine), Anthony Callea (Johnny Casino). The principal cast is completed by Stephen Mahy (Kenickie), Francine Cain (Frenchy), Chris Durling (Doody), Sam Ludeman (Sonny), Duane McGregor (Roger) and Laura Murphy (Jan).

AussieTheatre’s Sydney team were at the event, to bring you this special photo feature. Video interviews to come.
