An exclusive One Night Only performance at the Clocktower

The Clocktower Centre celebrates its 20th anniversary with a special One Night Only performance from Australian stars Silvie Paladino, Michael Cormick and Dolly Diamond on Saturday, 22 February at 8pm.

I caught up with these three incredible performers to find out a little bit more about what audiences can expect.

Silvie Paladino is one of Australians most versatile and talented performers. She has performed in Les Misérables on the West End, as well as iconic musicals Hair, Miss Saigon and The King and I. She is also a favourite on the Carols by Candlelight stage and has performed to massive crowds at the AFL grand final.

Silvie explained that she is a local to The Clocktower Centre and has performed there many times over the years. “I remember it when it was the Town Hall, long before clocktower as we know now it”, she told me. “We were so excited when it first opened, I remember thinking what a huge achievement it was to have such a great venue in a suburban area. The theatre has attracted so many wonderful productions and artists and is forever growing and evolving.”

Silvie has performed on stages around the world but did confess, “there is definitely an attraction to performing so close to where I live, I think I can probably be at the theatre in about 8 minutes from my front door.” I dare say, however, it will take a little longer to warm up and prepare for the spectacular songs she has planned.

Silvie went on to say, “it is very important that we celebrate this event; the arts, in general, should be celebrated. It is a fantastic achievement and I am so glad the community will be included in celebrations. I am excited to be working Michael, whom I have performed with many times before and with Dolly, as she is so quick-witted I’m sure I’ll be laughing my pant off.”

After some deliberation, Silvie told me she was most excited to be performing her rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ by K D Lang.

Joining Silvie is Michael Cormick, the internationally renowned singer and actor, with leading roles in many amazing theatre shows, including Beauty and The Beast, Cats, Grease, The Rocky Horror Show and The Phantom of the Opera. Silvie and Michael have been close friends for over twenty years and Michael speaks very fondly of the opportunity of sharing the stage.

Michael explained, “I never doubted the success of the venue and it is all down to the solid sense of community amongst the locals. It’s a tough industry by any standard,” he told me, “and to keep going for 20 years is quite an achievement.”

Audiences can expect Michael’s signature musical theatre delights to fill the Clocktower for this celebration with “maybe the odd fun number in there for good measure” he told me.

“We want as many of the locals there to share this momentous occasion as possible, so definitely get along for what will certainly be an amazing evening of music and laughter.”

And laughter there will be . . .

As keeping the whole night moving along is none other than Melbourne’s self-proclaimed Queen of Cabaret, Dolly Diamond. Known for her quick, sharp wit and musical talents, Dolly has performed across the UK, Europe and Australia.

Dolly will be compering the evening and will also be treating the audience to the odd duet along the way.

“It is so wonderful to be sharing the stage with these two incredible performers, for what I just know is going to be a fabulous evening,” she said.

Dolly has also previously performed at The Clocktower Centre and can’t wait to return. When asked why people should book a seat for this show, she said, “well I have no idea why they wouldn’t book. We are going to enjoy a colourful night of music and laughter in celebration of this landmark anniversary.”
