A Quick Chat With Olivia Charalambous

Olivia Charalambous recently appeared in the STC production of Spring Awakening

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I’ve always wanted to be a performer but I guess I never really had a choice. I got my first gig at the age of 6 and a half in Cameron Macintosh’s Les Miserables and also having my sister’s influence, I was bound to become a performer.

Who is the most important person in the world to you?
My family. I love my beautiful, supportive parents. And of course my big sister, Lisa-Marie. Also, my brother in law Chris Parker. They mean the most to me.

What animal best represents you and why?
Apparently, a little bear cub. My cast mate (from Spring Awakening), Ali Calder describes me as ‘a little ball of furry fun’

If you were a contestant on Deal or No Deal, how much would you need to be on offer before you walked away?
Give me the wig and I’m set.

What’s the worst date you’ve ever had?
Aren’t all dates awkward when you’re a teenager?

Windows or MAC?
MAC MAC MAC MAC!

Which Spice Girl was your favourite?
I was asked this exact question when I was six in an interview and I answered with Sporty Spice because apparently I liked sport which is a load of bullocks. In fact, I hate sport. After all that my answer is Scary Spice.

Who is the actor you would be most like to work alongside?
Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett.

What five songs would be the first you put a mix tape?
The way you make me feel – Michael Jackson
Don’t stop me now- Queen
Total Eclipse of the Heart –  Bonnie Tyler
Single Ladies- Beyonce
Flight – Sutton Foster & Megan McGinnis

What is the best thing about theatre in Australia?
The standard, passion and commitment.

What is the worst thing about theatre in Australia?
The lack of interest from the general public.

Favourite food?
Pad Thai.

What would you do if you found a wallet on the ground?
Have a look-see and then hand it in.

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
I was once hired by my high school to clean our entire art department.

What’s the first website you visit when you come online?
Facebook. Dah. I’m 18. Do you even need to ask?

Name one moment when you looked around, breathed happily and felt content
The moment I saw the Spring Awakening set. One of the most magical moments of my life.

Red or white?
White.

Where is the most interesting place you have travelled?
New York City.

Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
Cate Blanchett.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully, still performing and loving life, like I am now.
