I came across this infographic today covering the costs and expenditure involved in producing a show on Broadway or The West End. I found the breakdown of costs quite interesting.
The graphic doesn’t reference or claim to represent the Australian industry in any way, but you would have to assume that the areas of expense and considerations would very similar in percentage even if the absolute dollar amount varied.
While it is easy to overawed by the amount of money involved, the statistics that hit home for me the most were: 9 out of 10 Broadway’s shows fail to return back their initial investment and Actors Equity in the UK state that, on average, only 15% of its members are working in any one week.
Do you think it would be a fair comparison to the Australian industry?
