This is an important public service announcement:
Alan Cumming.
Do you know who he is?
If you do, great. This little note is for you. (And you’ll LOVE the FAQs on his website).
If you don’t, great. This little note is also for you. Because I think it’s important for you to know about one of the best examples of a working artist I have ever seen.
Alan Cumming is, as the first line of his biography tells me, “more than eclectic”. He has played the most varied range of roles throughout his incredibly successful career – from his Tony Award winning portrayal of the Emcee in *Cabaret* on Broadway to his Shakespeare Globe nominated performance as Hamlet at London’s Donmar Warehouse – and he’s currently IN THE SAME CITY AS ME.
*breathe*
Melbourne. He’s here. In Melbourne. And he’s performing for three days at Arts Centre Melbourne in an intimate solo show – *Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs*.
The Scottish actor, singer, writer, columnist, (idol), producer and LGBT rights activist has seriously had one heck of a career. Don’t believe me? Check out his exceptionally well written bio here (seriously, it’s epic, and probably one of the most excellent website biographies I’ve ever seen).
He’s performed 808 and a half shows of Kander and Ebb’s cult musical hit Cabaret – is anyone else curious about what happened in the 809th show? – he has appeared in countless films and TV shows, he’s been nominated for so many awards, they don’t fit on one page on his website, he released an award winning fragrance named “Cumming” and he was named as one of the most fun people in show business by Time Magazine.
And he’s playing his debut in Melbourne tonight!
Now, even though I’m in Melbourne for the next few days, I can’t make it to his show, so I am relying on you to head along to do some whooping, laughing, clapping and weeping for me. All I want to do is see Alan Cumming live onstage, singing witty reinterpretations of pop songs and stage classics, especially tailored for his tour down under.
I’ll be just over the road being a Cat, so if you’d be so kind as to remember EVERY LITTLE DETAIL and let me know all about it, I’d be eternally grateful.
Thank you so much!
