Spiegeltent: The Trip

I really enjoy arriving at a venue – especially if it’s The Famous Spiegeltent – to witness a show that I know little about. The element of surprise always thrills me. And I wasn’t disappointed.

The Trip

To say that The Trip is wunderbar (German for ‘wonderful’) is an understatement. Direct from Berlin, the exquisite troupe are nothing short of breathtaking in the level of skill and entertainment they deliver.

I laughed many times during this show. Out loud. And quite hysterically. But I also sat at the edge of my seat close to tears at times with the sheer poignancy of the performers’ dexterity. I love this fluctuating emotional experience; it’s everything I want from a show.

On the night we were privy to a bevy of extreme circus performers and delicious cabaret acts. Baby Jane, an accomplished performer from the New York drag scene, interjected her oddball and hilarious feats of cabaret while showcasing the biggest set of mammaries I’ve seen this side of Jordan. And like an ode to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the effervescent Jack Woodhead charmed us on the piano with his dirty ditties, and was always the quintessential dominating host.

All the acts in this show are like WOW talented (no weak links) but I must admit to having a weak spot for Spanish boylesque contortionist David Pereira. His dance/contortionist number with a shopping trolley – yes, you heard me right – is riveting and awe inspiring. Pereira’s physical ability to change seamlessly from drama to comedy only engenders more admiration from this doe-eyed reviewer, and yes I’m gushing now.

I don’t want give away all the trade secrets of The Trip here as you’ll want to be, and you deserve to be, exulted like I was. It’s really a show you MUST see this year at The Famous Spiegeltent just so you know what everyone is raving about.
