Review: The Travelling Sisters

The Travelling Sisters – Ell Sachs, Laura Trenerry, Lucy Fox

Beneath the floorboards of a new Brisbane venue – the Padre Dive Bar – a sisterhood of three fine young women held an audience captive for an evening to showcase a collection of their best sketches and musical comedy numbers.

The Travelling Sisters, outfitted in animal-printed pants, conjured up through music, comedy and animation, a mixed bag of delightfully oddball characters, who took us on a journey from lonely hearts, to improvisation, to strolling the streets naked. In amongst the rollicking good laughs there were some clever gems like the Fine and Dandy Lions environmental pop sensations.

There is something particularly enchanting about those who, on realising that they have true talent, decide to do wonderfully twisted things with it and these three Amiga delight in exhibiting all out tomfoolery or as the D-Generation so perfectly coined it “piss-farting about”. Naturally it takes plenty of talent to make idiocy work so well and although some parts of their repertoire are much stronger than others, it is easy to see the makings of a bright future playing out before you.

Developed over the last two years from a stint in the Anywhere Theatre Festival, The Travelling Sisters are Ell Sachs, Laura Trenerry and Lucy Fox are now en route to The Edinburgh Festival. Follow The Travelling Sisters on Facebook to keep up with their travails.
