MICF: The Tim Vine Chat Show

I unabashedly and unashamedly love dad jokes. This means that I love one-liners in every shape and form. Tim Vine is the king of the one-liner so The Tim Vine Chat Show is the perfect show if you want to laugh/groan your way into split sides.

Vine is always an interesting comedian to try and comment on. His jokes come so quick and fast and you’re laughing so hard that I’m hard pressed to remember a single joke he told. I do remember is that there was barely a single zinger that didn’t set me off in some capacity.

The Tim Vine Chat Show however has interludes between the quick-fire pace. Vine invites members of the audience, who have submitted a form before the show, up on stage and he interviews them about a bizarre moment from their past. Here, Vine gets the opportunity to show just how clever he is. Audiences won’t follow scripts but Vine still manages to pull out a one liner or seven from every member of the audience he talks to.

The audience are, therefore, the ultimate wildcard of the evening. Vine has no idea who these people are or how comfortable they will be on stage. So it seems a gamble to count on their supplying material for him to bounce off. But really you quickly see it’s a safe bet.

Vine has no problem highlighting when the interview or interviewee are struggling and who doesn’t love to watch someone metaphorically fall on their arse now and again. Vine has the personality to pull just about anyone though the interview in a way that keeps the audience engaged and happy. Even when he’s lost and confused, his blustering and blabbering are endearing and funny.

The Tim Vine Chat Show is worth every minute of your time this festival. Whether you like dad jokes or laughing at others, it has a little bit of something for everyone.
