MICF: Lynn Ruth Miller – This Is Your Future

At 82, Lynn Ruth Miller is the oldest stand-up comedian in the world. And, as the name of her show tells us, This Is Your Future.

Lynn Ruth Miller

I didn’t really know what I was in for with this show. There were definitely things I expected – Lynn Ruth explains about growing up in the 30s and 40s, and how different life was during her war, which was World War 2. She talks about her two marriages. She talks about when men were men and when women wore corsets. And there’s a lot of fun to be had hearing about a life well lived and jokes about a very bygone era.

The unexpected and more exciting stuff was her talking about life after becoming a stand-up comedian at the age of 71. She was thrilled to be making people happy without having to make them dinner or make their bed. And there’s certain things you might not be surprised to hear from this Granny Gone Wild (“Careful Lynn Ruth, that dish will go straight to your hips”. “That’s okay, they’re new!”).

But this sweet old lady isn’t backwards when talking about recent boyfriends and her sex life. When she was growing up, nobody told her about the birds and the bees. Now, 82 years later, she gets to stand up and tell us all.

If this is our future, it’s very funny indeed.
