MICF: Celia Pacquola – Delayed

Celia Pacquola is so adorable I just want to pinch her cheeks and never let go. It’s hard to believe she moved to the other side of the world because she felt she needed to “change”. Change what? Perhaps she drove at 45 km/hr in a school zone. But that’s Pacquola’s schtick, playing the dorky loser who the audience can all but fall instantly in love with.

I saw Pacquola a few years ago in her show Am I strange? At the time she was already a confident and talented performer illustrating her well-honed skills for telling a great story. A couple years on and she’s only grown in strength. Her delivery is sleek, her jokes are bang on and her physical humour is just such a delight to watch.

What I especially love about Pacquola is how she manages to be droll while remaining earnest. In Delayed she cleverly weaves a love story in the guise of a “doomed long term relationship” throughout her show. Even while you’re laughing hysterically at one of her jokes, you’re asking yourself: so does Celia and Toby stay together? Of course you’ll have to see the show to find out.

There’s really not much else to say other than if you want to see a great feel good show showcasing a seasoned performer who makes your heart smile then don’t miss this show.
