Amelia Ryan starts off her show by bumbling on to the stage in a towel, and getting a couple of audience members to help her change into her first set of clothes. She shares that her life has been a shambles, and her show is going to tell it exactly like it is. She’s likeable and engaging and we are ready to hear it all from her and with her.
She uses parodies of well-known songs with her own clever tale-telling lyrics to share her quirky journey with us.
She begins with her childhood; having a gay Dad, who ends up marrying a tranny called Angela, (Trangela to Amelia), while her Mum is bonking the renovations work-man hunk. “What’s going on?” she sings at us.
She’s had five car crashes, a string of disaster jobs while trying to make it as an actor, is a total wash up as a pole dancer, and accidentally leaves the microphone on to a child audience while she exits her theatre education show . . . to have a pee. And we laugh, toe-tap and sing here and there, with her and at her.
Amelia can sing up a storm with her gutsy voice, while she throws in lots of naughtiness. Her chats blend well with and in and out of all of the songs and ditties. She loves it up there on stage, plays the audience for fun all the way, and does lots of dragging them on to the stage which has us in stitches at times.
It’s a fun show and she’s a fun gal with a great voice, and a sparkle that really sparkles.
Looking for love in all the wrong places and eventually finding it in New York rounds up the ride well. And guess what, the lover she finds has a gay dad too! Nice ending for a Feast show, with a plea to the current government to get on with legalising gay marriage.
