Opera Australia's full priced opera tickets go for up to $280 a pop, so it's no wonder the art form is considered a little out of the youth price bracket.

A brand new initiative from Australia's national opera company is looking to change the way we view the opera world, with Youth Subscription Packages offering $60 tickets for up to six operas in the 2013 season.

Under 30s can now head to

the opera for the price of a round of drinks and in a push to make opera accessible to everyone, are doing away with the hoity-toity.

“Don your penguin suit, evening gown or rock up in a pair of jeans – just don’t forget to have a glass of champagne and enjoy your amazing night at the opera. It's a fantastic way to discover something new!”, Opera Australia have said in their media release.

Youth Subscription Packages are available on a first come, first served basis and the promotional deal ends on December 31. To be eligible for a Youth Subscription package, you must be 30 years of age or under on 1 January 2013, and will need to send a photocopy, photo or scan of your ID to Opera Australia Ticket Services.

For more information visit opera-australia.org.au, choose 'Subscribers' from the drop-down Tickets menu, then click on the Youth Subscribers option.
