You can ask that! Creation Creation heads off on national tour

After premiering in 2021 to rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, Windmill Theatre Company’s
genre-busting documentary theatre work Creation Creation hits the road on a whirlwind national tour from June – September.

Creation Creation will kick off its tour with a season at Sydney Opera House in late June, before heading to Arts Centre Melbourne in August and Perth’s AWESOME Festival in September, bringing the show to families all across the country.

Executive Director Kaye Weeks:

Creation Creation is a really special show for us here at Windmill, The creative team have done an impeccable job creating a theatrical experience that is completely singular, so much fun and also incredibly moving. We’re excited to be taking it to these three mainstage venues in 2022!.

Based on interviews with Australian’s aged between the age of 8 – 102, Creation Creation sees people from every corner of the community grapple with some of life’s most perplexing questions. Co-created by
director Rosemary Myers (Girl Asleep, Bluey’s Big Play), documentary theatre maker Roslyn Oades (The
Nightline), and performers and co-designers Jonathon Oxlade (Bluey’s Big Play, School Dance) and Fleur Elise Noble (Two Dimensional Life of Her, ROOMAN), Creation Creation is an equal parts moving and hilarious portrait of human creativity and ingenuity made for audiences aged 10 to 110.

Director Rosemary Myers:

The starting point for Creation Creation was looking at the big mysteries of life, and how attempting to answer these burning question unites people across age and culture. Everyone, around the world, has pondered the meaning of life at some point. In a lot of ways, this is a show about that.

Roslyn Oades conducted over 35 hours of interviews that grapple with profound questions like ‘how did the world begin?, what happens when you die?’, ‘are aliens real?’, and ‘is it possible to lick your elbow?.

which she masterfully whittled down into a 50-minute audio script that two creators, Oxlade and Noble,
respond to in real-time on stage. Using every tool in their creative, including sculpture, mime, dance and
illustration, the pair build, battle and brawl their way through the mysteries of the universe.

Rosemary:

Jonathon and Fleur are incredible visual artists, and they’re both brilliant performers as well, and to see them miraculously pull off answers to these huge questions is so much fun!

Creation Creation also features AUSLAN interpretation from Dan Cleasby, a community member who the creative team met during the interview process. His natural charisma made him a perfect fit for the project, and footage of him interpreting and participating in the action is projected onto the set throughout the show, making every performance of Creation Creation accessible to deaf or hard of hearing audience members.

Rosemary:

Creation Creation has been a real labour of love for the whole team at Windmill and were thrilled to be able to share it with so many people around the country, We can’t wait to hit the road and answer some of your most burning questions sort of.
