A new world premiere production by Gareth Davies will premiere at the Belvoir St Downstairs Theatre next month.
And They Called Him Mr Glamour opens on September 15 for a three week season.
Davies wrote And They Called Him Mr Glamour during a deep and fragile bout of paranoia, not necessarily planning, but sort of falling through it.
In the hands of Thomas M. Wright as director it becomes a tirade of black humour, stone throwing and the pathetic, yet illuminating tale of a man alone on stage before an audience, desperately trying to define the void between them.
Davies is a true fool: intelligent, reckless, determined, and destined to fail. And The Called Him Mr Glamour is his biting and hilarious plea for revelation, self-respect and the possibility of actual empathetic connection.
And They Called Him Mr Glamour is The Black Lung Theatre’s inaugural production in Sydney. They are currently at work on I Feel Awful for Queensland Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival, and creating a premiere production in East Timor.
Ironically, Davies and Wright didn’t get on at high school, but now form one third of The Black Lung Theatre and are developing into a powerful duo.
The play opens on September 15. Bookings: (02) 9699 3444.
