Wicked’s Magical Milestone

The musical Wicked has reached the extraordinary achievement of one million visitors during its Australian run.

Mr Peter Maroon of Carlingford, NSW, bought his ticket on Tuesday evening and became the one millionth Wicked patron.

Mr Maroon wins a Wicked VIP upgrade, including overnight accommodation for two at Vibe Hotel Sydney, a pre-show dinner for two at one of the Wicked official partner restaurants supplied by Showbiz, chauffeured transport to dinner and the show, a signed program, two “Ozmopolitan” cocktails, a Wicked merchandise bag, a backstage tour and a photo with Wicked cast members. He also wins a real Wicked prop – Elphaba’s broom!

Opening at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in July 2008, the musical played for 13 record-breaking months before starting previews at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on September 5, 2009. The show has broken all previous weekly box office records for a musical at the Capitol Theatre, and is currently selling tickets through to the end of June.

Australian Co-Producer of Wicked John Frost is thrilled that the production has reached this landmark.

“This is an amazing feat, reached by only a handful of other musicals in Australian theatre history,” Frost said.

“Australian audiences have fallen under the magical spell of Wicked. Melbourne and Sydney audiences have taken the show to their hearts, with some people coming to the theatre for the first time in their lives and others seeing the show multiple times. I’d like to thank audiences for helping us reach the milestone of one million people, and we’re looking forward to staying around in Sydney for as long as audiences want to see this magical show.”

Peter Maroon will be attending Wicked tomorrow night, Friday May 14.
