Wicked’s $10 million box office advance
Despite the chinese whispers of the theatre industry suggesting it is in trouble, the blockbuster musical Wicked is set to be a huge success in Sydney, holding a $10 million box office advance heading into tomorrow night’s opening performance at the Capitol Theatre.
The production, which cost $12.5 million to mount, is expected to start turning a profit within weeks.
Co-producer John Frost said there are good signs for the show in Sydney.
“We’ve got a stronger advance in Sydney than Melbourne and an open-ended lease on the Capitol,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“It’s a far better venue than the Regent because it’s more intimate.”
Wicked opens at the Capitol Theatre tomorrow.
