John Frost (co-producer) on the success of the show:
“Wicked is a phenomenon, quite unlike any other musical, one of the most successful shows of all time. It is well over three years since we opened Wicked at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, and we weren’t sure if we’d run a week, a month or a year. But right from the beginning this show has been an overwhelming hit. Australians have taken Wicked to their hearts. Audiences have been captivated by the soaring ballads, the spectacular sets, costumes and lighting, and been draw into the emotional richness of this beautiful story. Thank you Perth and thank you Australia for making Wicked the success it has been.”
The show has been celebrating its final week with a number of special fan events including a best dressed competition at each performance. Audience members also have the opportunity to “Wickify” themselves, dressing up in Wicked style costumes and having their photo taken in front of the shows banners.
The Asian tour of Wicked will open in Singapore in December, AussieTheatre.com believes that it will then continuing on to both Korea and Hong Kong. As previously reported Suzie Mathers will be taking over the role of Glinda from Lucy Durack. Lucy will be next appearing in the delayed production of Strange Bedfellows.
Producer John Frost has confirmed with AussieTheatre.com that while nothing is set in stone, he does have plans to bring Wicked back to Australia after it completes an Asian and New Zealand tour. Australian audiences may have farewelled Glinda and Elphaba for now, but not For Good.
