Wicked Opens in Sydney

It was far from the glamourous event that greeted the show in Melbourne, but Wicked has opened in Sydney and will now settle into its run at the Capitol Theatre.

The show opened last night in somewhat low-key circumstances, with the after-party held in the Capitol Theatre foyer.

It was a far cry from the expensive Melbourne opening night party, which was held at the Sofitel. There, special themed rooms were a talking point of what was the theatrical party of the year. Last night, the audience was taken through stage door and through the theatre, back into the foyer for the cramped celebration of the Sydney opening.

Wicked has an open-ended lease at the Capitol Theatre, and producers are hopeful the show will be extremely successful.

The opening night response was positive, with the performance given a standing ovation at its conclusion.

Wicked stars Lucy Durack, Amanda Harrison, Rob Mills, Bert Newton, Penny McNamee and Maggie Kirkpatrick.
