‘Popular’: Amanda Harrison and Lucy Durack – the Original Australian cast of Wicked

Despite hanging up her wand after the final Perth performance of Wicked in September, Australian actress Lucy Durack will open the Singapore Premiere of the blockbuster musical at Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre tomorrow night as Glinda, The Good Witch.

Durack originated the role in the original Australian cast of Wicked in 2008 and went on to perform the role in the Australian tour.

Durack’s replacement, WAAPA graduate Suzie Mathers, was set to debut in the lead role of Glinda this week, but due to illness has been unable to perform. Producer John Frost has confirmed with AussieTheatre.com that Lucy was flown to Singapore to open the production in Mathers’ place.

“Lucy performed last night (7 December) and tonight” said Frost. “Lucy will open the show tomorrow night [but] Suzie will be back soon.” The Australian Wicked Company have been in technical rehearsals this week, leading up to their international debut with an Official Opening Night tomorrow (Friday December 9 2011).

Durack will perform alongside Jemma Rix as Elphaba and David Harris as Fiyero in tomorrow’s opening.

AussieTheatre.com wishes the entire cast and crew a wonderful opening, and Suzie Mathers a speedy recovery.
