Wicked cast goes Into The Woods

You might think witches, handsome princes and beautiful blondes in ball gowns at the Capitol Theatre means one show? Right? Wrong!

For one night only, the cast of Wicked, including Lucy Durack, Rob Mills and Maggie Kirkpatrick, will be presenting Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim’s timeless classic, Into The Woods.

When a Baker and his Wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack. Everyone’s wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results.

What begins as an irreverent fantasy in the style of The Princess Bride becomes a moving story about what follows “Happily Ever After”, and how happy endings are rarely as simple as they seem. One of Sondheim’s most popular works and featuring the cast and orchestra from Sydney’s hit production of WickedInto The Woods reminds us to be careful what we wish for – because sometimes they come true.

This one night charity event will serve to launch the ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment for 2010, and all proceeds from the night will be donated to the Endowment. Established after the sudden death of Rob Guest, OBE, in October 2008, and in recognition of his achievements in the musical theatre industry, the endowment was established to help emerging artists within the musical theatre industry.

Supported by ANZ, and the musical theatre industry, the Endowment grew rapidly in its inaugural year and hopes to continue to do so in the future. As they launch their exciting 2010 program, this event offers a unique opportunity to be part of commemorating the life of Rob Guest, supporting future talent and seeing the Wicked cast like never before.

Wicked Australia Co-Producer John Frost is thrilled the ANZ Trustees Foundation: Rob Guest Endowment has been embraced by the entertainment industry.

“This is a wonderful legacy, honouring one of Australia’s most successful and loved musical theatre stars,” he said.

“Rob always made time to assist and mentor young performers, and the growth of this Endowment is a testament to the respect we all held for Rob.”
