Annie is full of toe-tapping hits such as It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, NYC, Maybe and everyone’s favourite song – Tomorrow.

These wonderful songs have become staples of musical theatre repertoires worldwide and now, 34 years on, it remains one of the most loved and universally appealing musicals of all time.

Girls who are residents of QLD with singing and dancing training aged between 7 and 15 are able to audition for the roles of the “ORPHANS and ANNIE” in this exciting new production of the ever popular Broadway Musical, opening at Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s, (QPAC’s) Lyric Theatre on April 7 2012.

An extensive search has already taken place for the Sydney season, with 24 girls selected from 1000 applicants to make up three casts of young performers (one Annie and seven orphans in each cast).  The process will now be repeated as Annie prepares to move to Brisbane giving young girls across Australia a chance to shine in this opportunity of a lifetime.

The vocal range required of the young hopefuls is Low B to High F#. All auditionees will be taught a small section from the production, sheet music not required. Rehearsals will commence in Brisbane on or about Monday, 12th March 2012 before opening in Brisbane in April 2012 for a 5 week season.

Some of the most famous actresses in Hollywood began their careers playing the role of Annie, says Producer John Frost.

“Sarah Jessica Parker, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alyssa Milano all played her early in their careers,” Frost said.

“It’s certainly a great training ground for young actresses. It will give them a real taste of what it’s like in grown-up town.”
