Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight: one magical night

Tickets to the most magical night of the year, Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight are on sale now.

Since its inception in 1938, Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight has become a stalwart of Christmas tradition and has been entertaining Australians as an annual Christmas Eve celebration. In 2019, we celebrate 60 years of performances bringing joy to thousands at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and 40 years of live broadcasts reaching millions on the Nine Network.

Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight has over 80 years of history, supporting children who are blind or have low vision. On Christmas Eve donations will be matched by generous partners of Vision Australia to double the impact for children who are blind or have low vision and their families.

Carols by Candlelight hosts Allison Langton and David Campbell

Allison Langdon will make her Carols by Candlelight debut this Christmas Eve when she joins David Campbell to co-host Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight live from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. Together they’ll welcome a star-studded lineup of artists including David Campbell, Marina Prior, Denis Walter, David Hobson, Silvie Paladino, Rob Mills, Bobby Fox, Bonnie Anderson, Christie Whelan Browne, Anthony Callea and Tim Campbell with more performers to be announced later this month.

Remarkable singer and pianist Paul Kapeleris has been announced as ambassador for this year’s event. Paul, who was born legally blind with only five per cent vision, will perform at the family event in a dream come true for the musician. Paul first made headlines on Australia’s Got Talent and now, as Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight Ambassador, will bring his joyful music to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Christmas Eve.

CEO of Vision Australia, Ron Hooton said, “Our services include helping children succeed at school, use technology to support their independence, participate in sport, and develop important life skills. We invite you to join us in a moment of Christmas joy and generosity and help us raise funds to continue our services for children.”

With gates opening at 4pm, there will be a range of family friendly activities as well as some of Melbourne’s best food stalls to keep you entertained before the children’s entertainment begins at 6pm followed by the main event at 8pm.

In 1959, Carols by Candlelight moved from Alexandra Gardens to the just-opened larger venue, the Sidney Myer Music Bowl where more than 100,000 people attended. This year we celebrate 60 years of this annual tradition at the Bowl, providing support for the Vision Australia community and bringing together families during the festive season.

In 1979, Channel 9 became the event’s official broadcast partner and 40 years on, the Nine Network is still proud to be partnered with this longstanding Christmas tradition.

Celebrate the magic of Christmas and be part of Australia’s biggest Christmas tradition.
