Producers John Frost, Michael Harrison and David Ian have announced that beloved Australian pop star Paulini will play the leading role in The Bodyguard, the award-winning film-turned musical.
Paulini first stepped into the limelight on the first series of Australian Idol, impressing the nation with her 5-octave range. The Fijian-born singer songwriter will be making her theatrical debut as Marron in the Australian Premiere of The Bodyguard.
The role of Marron was first performed in the movie classic by Whitney Houston which co-starred Kevin Costner. Paulilni has had a long relationship with Whitney Houston’s music since her teens when she won the National Star Search competition with her rendition of ‘When You Believe’.
Producer John Frost said, “When Paulini came into the audition room and sang those Whitney Houston hits, we knew she was born to be our leading lady.“
Aussie Theatre reporter Bobbi-Lea got a chance to talk to our leading lady about her new role and her journey from Idol to Bodyguard.
The 2017 Australian tour of THE BODYGUARD will open in Sydney Lyric in April 2017, before playing at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC, Brisbane from July.
