Written by Harvey Fierstein, Torch Song Trilogy is an intensely personal collection of three plays that chronicle a Jewish New York drag queen’s quest for love, respect, and a life he can be proud of. The stories of protoganist Arnold Beckoff run the gamut from a failed affair with a reluctant lover to a relationship with a young fashion model, but the greatest torment in his life remains that of his tumultuous relationship with his mother.

When it opened on Broadway it won two Tony Awards, including best play, as well as Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards. It was adapted for film in 1981, starring Fierstein, Anne Bancroft, and Matthew Broderick.

The Sydney season features a strong cast comprised of Simon Corfield, Thom Jordan, Amanda Muggleton, Mathew Verevis, Christian Willis, and Belinda Wollaston. The touching, hilarious story will be more fully realised through music, with it played and sung live on stage by the cast.

Torch Song Trilogy is part of the Theatre 19 season at Darlinghurst Theatre in Potts Point. Previews begin Feburary 1st 2013. For tickets and more information visit darlinghursttheatre.com/theatre19 or phone 02 8356 9987.
