Tonight: theatre to change the world

At the Imperial Hotel in Erskineville, Laura Jackson is going to perform for change. Handle It, Jackson’s one woman play, will be performed tonight as a fundraiser for the United Nations Women.

This one night performance will feature two guest speakers, Tracey Spicer (who gave a Ted Talk on female beauty standards called “The Lady Stripped Bare”)  and Sydney theatre personality Augusta Supple, and the evening will conclude with a performance the Aspiring Musical Theatre Company.

Handle It, returning to Sydney after a sold out season at the Sydney Fringe, is a fitting show for a UN Women fundraiser. Jackson described the play as

“The story of a young woman at university, whose life is turned upside down when compromising pictures of her are posted on Facebook. The play explores the Generation Y experience of intimacy in a world where the internet shapes relationships, pornography is everywhere and young women do their best to cope.”

Funds raised from this event will go to support UN Women’s Beijing20 Campaign & their efforts, projects and advances in policy.

50% of ticket sales revenue will be donated to:
– Protect women and girls from violence
– Provide safe and stable jobs
– Develop women as leaders
– Ensure women’s participation in peace processes
– Advance gender equality
