Born in NSW, Power played competitive sports for most of his childhood until he was given a guitar as a gift. The talented sportsman discovered a new love for music, and decided to dedicate himself to the performing arts.
A graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), 2008, TJ is no stranger to the spotlight. This singer, songwriter and actor has performed Shakespeare, recorded a solo EP (New Wheel, 2009), appeared in countless live theatre productions across the country and received an honorable mention at the Sydney Film Festival this year for his role in his first feature film, Wasted on the Young.
It comes as no surprise that this effervescent, yet easy-going young actor won over the casting team of Eat, Pray, Love and landed the role of Leon (son of Javier Bardem’s character, Felipe) via a filmed audition in Beijing.
“The whole experience was awesome! From filming the audition in a hotel room in Beijing to working in Bali to the premiere itself!”, Power says.
A short time after sending his audition to the casting director, he was offered the role and whisked away to Indonesia for filming. “I got to fly to Bali, surf for a week, and film with 2 Oscar winners for another week!”.
After attending the premiere of Eat, Pray, Love, Power will continue his current music project with partner Kathryn Sgroi called “The Art Of Grace” – a original duo songwriter act that is producing their first EP soon. Watch this space. TJ Power is a name to remember.
