Theatres in Queensland are preparing for potential damage and financial loss as the flood emergency in the State continues.

At least 10 people have been killed in the tragedy, with the death toll expected to double in the coming days.

Earlier today, blockbuster musical Wicked cancelled its performances in Brisbane for tonight and tomorrow, with QPAC forced to close.

The Wall Street Journal reported that at the Queensland Theatre Company, a blockish gray building at the foot of one of the bridges across the swollen Brisbane River, staff said they had cleared equipment from the stage and were preparing to evacuate earlier today.

“The theatre is on the ground floor so we’ve already moved all our equipment to higher ground,” said Alissa Seed, a marketing assistant.

Details on other theatres and damage, particularly in regional areas, are not known at this stage.
