The Wacky Wombat (Melbourne Shakespeare Company)

Melbourne families are invited to join Alex on his mission to find the Wacky Wombat helping all of your favourite fairy tale characters along the way. This hilarious sixty-minute family musical follows Alex as he goes on an epic adventure inside his new story book on a once in a lifetime quest to try and find the world-famous Wacky Wombat!

The Wacky Wombat is an original family musical written by Emma Austin (Telling Tales) and Anthony Craig (Alice in Wonderland), featuring songs by award winning children’s Youtubers, Story Surprise.

With twists, turns, and a little bit of magic, the Wacky Wombat will take audiences on a wild ride through classics tales like the Tortoise and the Hare, Tiddalick the Frog, and the Seal Catcher, teaching Alex and the audience some very important lessons along the way.

In classic Melbourne Shakespeare Company style, audiences can also expect larger than life characters, beautiful choreography, and toe-tapping sing-a-longs as they take the park this March.

Melbourne Shakespeare Company aims to make the magic and excitement of live theatre accessible to all families by offering pay-what-you-can tickets for the production. This allows audience members to either grab a ticket for free or donate to the company as payment for their afternoon’s entertainment, maiming to reduce the financial barriers stopping many families accessing high-quality theatre.

In creating and producing outdoor theatre, Melbourne Shakespeare Company recognises and values the land on which they are able to rehearse and perform. With this comes a responsibility to respect and protect these spaces. As a result, all the design and production choices are made with sustain ability in mind. Set designer Abbey Stanway and Costume designer Emily Busch have worked tirelessly to reduce impact on the environment by reusing and recycling as many materials as possible in their designs with incredible effect.

If reviews of Melbourne Shakespeare Company’s previous family productions are anything to go by this production is guaranteed to be a hit.
