Vocalist/songwriter Tania Doko burst onto the Australian music scene in the late 1990s as one half of the
ARIA award-winning pop duo Bachelor Girl, with the smash hit single Buses and Trains. It was the first
single from the band’s debut album, and it took out Song of the Year at the 1999 APRA Music Awards.
Now, with an impressive 30-year career spanning continents and musical genres, Tania Doko brings her
incredible vocal artistry and amazing songwriting expertise to Perth for a concert with WAAPA’s
Contemporary Music students on Friday 13 May at Perth’s hottest new club, Magnet House.
Doko will take to the stage at Magnet House to sing popular hits you’ll know and love, plus a selection of
exciting original songs written by WAAPA’s student musicians. Magnet House, previously known as Capitol, underwent a state-of-the-art multi-million dollar facelift and reopened as Maggie’s in 2020. Now, under Doko’s mentorship, WAAPA is delighted to have its students performing at this iconic Perth venue.
Doko is renowned throughout the world for her songwriting credentials, having written hits for European acts as well as Australia’s Tina Arena, Jessica Mauboy, The Veronicas, Delta Goodrem, Samantha Jade and Kate Ceberano.
After being based in Sweden for a decade, Doko is now making the most of her 2021 relocation back to
Melbourne, crafting music for both Bachelor Girl and a solo album. She is also committed to coaching and mentoring up-and-coming artists and songwriters, as well as working as a consultant in the music industry.
During recent COVID times, Doko has been creating artistic content online with the likes of Kate Ceberano, Ricki-Lee Coulter and John Foreman, and has also featured with Grammy nominated Eric Bazilian on records like You Tube star Greg Gould’s cover of the iconic song Bittersweet Symphony.
With her wealth of expertise, Doko is bound to supercharge her concert with WAAPA’s Contemporary Music students. For an incredible night of pop classics and freshly minted new songs, don’t miss The Songwriters Stage with Tania Doko at Maggie’s.
