The Music of Hans Zimmer

Following three sold-out shows in 2023, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and podcasters Art of the Score bring the awesome power of Hans Zimmer’s biggest film scores to life, with an epic encore performance of The Music of Hans Zimmer.

Led by conductor Jessica Gethin, hear the powerful worlds of Batman, Gladiator and Inception, the swash buckling flair of Pirates of the Caribbean and the iconic pridelands of The Lion King brought to life for one night only at the ICC Sydney Theatre, along with the Sydney premiere of some surprise new scores.

Journey deep into Hans Zimmer’s Oscar and Grammy Award-winning career and experience this extraordinary music from some of the best-loved films of all time performed by the full power of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Popular Art of the Score podcasters Andrew Pogson and Dan Golding will guide you in this unforgettable concert event, unpacking what it is that makes this music so impactful and iconic.

A prolific composer, Hans Zimmer has written film music for more than four decades. The Germanborn composer’s work has become as recognisable as the films they were composed for, with his signature style of marrying traditional music with electronic sounds creating unique soundscapes in over 150 films, including Hollywood blockbusters such as the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Inception (2010), Dunkirk (2017), Thelma and Louise (1991), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017).

His numerous accolades include Academy Awards for Best Original Score for The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021), two Golden Globes, and an Oscar. In 2007, he was named a Top 100 Living Genius by the UK’s The Daily Telegraph.

Audiences will discover fascinating background stories such as how Hans Zimmer convinced Ridley Scott to alter the beginning of Gladiator or how he smuggled an anti-apartheid message into the lyrics of The Lion King in Zulu, telling the producers that it was about butterflies.

Speaking about the collaboration, producer, director, and jazz musician Andrew Pogson:

Having the opportunity to collaborate once again with one of the world’s great orchestras, on the biggest stage in Sydney, presenting music from the most influential film composer of the 21st century is a dream come true. We can’t wait to share with audiences our love letter to Hans Zimmer alongside the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and delve deeply into what makes these great scores tick.

The Music of Hans Zimmer with Art of the Score and Sydney Symphony Orchestra is an unforgettable event for all age groups, film enthusiasts, music lovers and families.
