The Last Five Years

Mitchell Old is a 19-Year-Old first time theatre producer in Sydney. Having seen the devastating effect that the 2020 Covid Pandemic has had on the performing arts, he created The Mitchell Old Company to provide professional experiences for emerging artists. The Mitchell Old Company looks forward to pushing the limits of professional theatre and live entertainment, whilst still providing opportunities for young professionals within the arts.

In 2021, The Mitchell Old Company will be producing their debut production of The Last Five Years, written and composed by Jason Robert Brown. Featuring a pair of young professional actors and the artistic direction of Mitchell Old – it will be a musical experience that is not to be missed.

The Last Five Years, written and composed by Jason Robert Brown is a brilliantly funny, tender, intimate and playful musical that chronicles a couple’s passionate romance from both perspectives: Jamie from the beginning with all the optimism of young love, looking to the future; Cathy with the hurt and disappointment of its end, looking backwards.

Somewhere in between their story overlaps. The Off-Broadway hit has developed a cult following worldwide in theatre communities, with its extraordinary ability to express universal feeling of love and heartbreak into a deeply affecting and intimate musical experience.

Fundamentally, The Mitchell Old Company wishes to create opportunities for young artists and prove that a career within the arts is sustainable and worthwhile. With the inclusion of students from a local high school on the production crew and an orchestra that is made of current Sydney Conservatorium of Music students and other young artists, we hope to create a professional experience in which they can grow and develop their craft.
