Josh Piterman’s love of sport and arts combine tomorrow night when the PitFit Fitness studio director and musical theatre performer sings the National Anthem at the first State of Origin match for 2015.
Piterman will make his ANZ Stadium debut singing the Aussie anthem on Wednesday 27 May before the Blues and Maroons battle it out in the first Origin match of the year.
Piterman, who has starred as Tony in West Side Story (Australian Tour) and Corny Collins in Hairspray (West End) has enjoyed a successful theatre career, complemented with an interest in fitness training, so it is fitting that he bridge the gap between sport and arts at this level.
It has also been announced today that Piterman will star in the Australian tour of CATS the Musical, one of the most physically demanding shows in the music theatre canon.
Piterman is the first confirmed cast member to be announced for the production.
Prior to CATS Josh will be appearing as Edward Lyons in Enda Markey’s Blood Brothers in Melbourne.
Last year, Piterman was appointed an ambassador for the Institute of Fitness after opening PitFit – a gym catering particularly to performers and employing fitness techniques inspired by the creative arts.
CATS will open at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre on 30 October, before touring to Hobart, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
