Tap Dogs heads to Sydney, Wicked to close?

Adam Garcia will return to Australia to appear in a limited five week season of Tap Dogs in Sydney.

The show has announced a January 5 opening date at the Capitol Theatre, which means the blockbuster musical Wicked is poised to announce a closing date.

The global dance phenomenon of Tap Dogs combines the strength and power of workmen with the precision and talent of tap dancing, and has been seen by over 11 million people worldwide and performed in 330 cities, and 37 countries across the globe.

The 2010 West End season opens in London on June 15.

Dein Perry directed Garcia in the lead role of his debut film Bootmen, a film inspired by Perry’s experiences of growing up in the Australian industrial city of Newcastle where Tap Dogs was conceived.

Garcia will feature in the London season of Tap Dogs before returning to perform in Australia. He previously danced with Tap Dogs in the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

The January season of Tap Dogs will mark the first time the show has played in the Harbour City since 2005. It will be Tap Dogs only Australian engagement for 2011.
