From 24 September the Sydney Theatre Company is set to stage Sex With Strangers, a tender and comical love story coming to Australia straight from a premiere at Chicago’s acclaimed Steppenwolf Theatre in 2011.
Olivia, a bookish and private thirty-something, is coming off a failed novel as she finishes up her new manuscript; she’s having a crisis of confidence. Enter Ethan, a Gen Y blogger whose book Sex With Strangers, a chronicle of his year on the singles scene, who topped the New York Times Best Seller List.
Their relationship develops, and playwright Laura Eason pits books against blogs to ask who we are in the digital age in this topical two-hander, which will star Ryan Corr (Packed to the Rafters) and Jacqueline McKenzie (In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play).
Sex With Strangers will be directed by well-known film and television director Jocelyn Moorehead, best known for Proof and How to Make an American Quilt.
