Global Creatures’ new Australian musical, based on the acclaimed 1992 film, is currently playing at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre and will take up residence at Her Majesty’s once Les Miserables closes at the end of this year. Staged and designed by the original creative team behind the film (Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin and John ‘Cha Cha’ O’Connell), the production features break-into-song numbers created from original classics from the film, ‘Love is in the Air’, ‘Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps’, and ‘Time After Time’ as well as some wonderful new songs by artists such as Eddie Perfect and Sia.

“It’s a proud and thrilling collaboration for Global Creatures to be in partnership with Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin”, said Global Creatures CEO Carmon Pavlovic.

“This musical production has been conceived with the community in mind and the decision to premiere the show in Australia was born out of a desire to bring Strictly Ballroom full circle to where it all began. The post production for the film of Strictly Ballroom took place in Melbourne making the city a special part of this iconic title’s journey. We are delighted to be bringing the show to Melbourne and we can’t wait for Melbournians to experience this brand new Australian production and to reconnect with the story of Strictly Ballroom live on stage.”

Tickets for the Melbourne season of Strictly Ballroom the Musical will be on sale from Monday 21 July from Ticketek.

Starring Thomas Lacey and Phoebe Panaretos in the coveted roles of Scott and Fran, and featuring a stellar ensemble of supporting actors including Drew Forsythe, Natalie Gamsu, Robert Grubb and Rohan Browne, Strictly Ballroom employs an enormous amount of Australian performers. Long may it run.

Auditions for the children’s roles in the show will take place later in the year.
