STC’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses set to open 31 March

Pamela Rabe and Hugo Weaving will star in STC's Les Liaisons Dangereuses

A stellar cast led by Hugo Weaving and Pamela Rabe are set to star in a new Sydney Theatre Company production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Directed by Sam Strong and exploring love, lust, manipulation and sexual politics, the production will run at STC’s Wharf 1 from Saturday 31 March.

Vicomte de Valmont (Hugo Weaving) and the Marquise de Merteuil (Pamela Rabe) manipulate those around them like master puppeteers. With precision and discipline they plot an enact a dangerous game of revenge, seduction, humiliation, and cruelty. They will stoop to the lowest levels of deviousness in order to win with no regard to who gets caught in the crossfire, whether friend or foe.

Originally a novel by Choderlos de Laclos, it was first adapted for the stage by Christopher Hampton for a Royal Shakespeare Company production in 1985, with a cast featuring Lindsay Duncan, Alan Rickman and Juliet Stevenson. It was later adapted for the 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer, and inspired the 1999 film Cruel Intentions which relocated the story to a New York high school.
