Each will direct a main stage show in 2013. As part of their roles they will also: conduct workshops and script developments; take part in STC’s Rough Drafts program; and facilitate readings and dramaturgical assignments. They will propose development projects and participate in artistic programming while exploring career path development for emerging artists.

Of Goodes, Williams, and Giles, Andrew Upton said “They bring to their roles intelligence, a keen awareness of the issues facing our industry, and an inspiring understanding of the power of theatre.

“STC is a big company that produces a broad range of work and I feel very strongly that we need mroe working directors embedded in the centre of the action. With the whole artistic team I’m keen to really nail the kinds of works that only STC can pull off, in terms of style, scale, and quality.

“While they have established their own credentials as directors,Sarah, Kip, and Sarah are in the early stages of their careers and so will bring a new energy and point of view to the Company’s work.”

The Co Resident Director positions will be part-time, for an initial one year term. It is expected that all three will continue to develop their work on other stages around the country.

Sarah Goode’s mainstage STC production in 2013 will be John Doyle’s Vere (Faith). She directed The Splinter for STC in 2012 and has directed for Belvoir, SOH Studio, Tamarama Rock Surfers and Darlinghurst Theatre.

Kip Williams will direct Romeo and Juliet for STC in 2013. This year, he directed Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas for STC, and has been a prolific Assistant Director within the Company. He has also worked with Victorian Opera and Opera Australia, Sydney Champer Opera, Princeton Theatre, National Theatre Melbourne, and NIDA.

Sarah Giles was STC’s 2011 Richard Wherrett Fellow. She will direct Marraige Blanc by Tadeusz Rozewicz for the Wharf this year, and next year on the main stage will helm George Bernard Shaw’s Mrs Warren’s Profession. Sarah has also directed for Griffin Theatre, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Red Stitch, New Theatre, and La Mama.
