Stage School Australia announces second Brisbane production: Seussical, coming April 2025

Following on from the success of their September 2024 production of The Wizard of Oz, Stage School Australia is set to bring another dazzling and heartwarming spectacle to the stage!

Seussical, a whimsical musical adaptation of the beloved works of Dr. Seuss, is coming to Brisbane this April for a limited season at the Draney Theatre in Ashgrove. Presented by Stage School Australia, Seussical promises hilarious characters, colourful costumes, and enchanting musical numbers that will delight audiences of all ages.

Auditions are now open for young performers aged 10 – 19 years old.

Seussical is a celebration of Dr. Seuss’ iconic stories and characters, with a book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and music by Stephen Flaherty. The musical combines elements from some of Dr. Seuss’ most cherished books, including Horton Hears a Who!, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Cat in the Hat. Seussical first premiered on Broadway in 2000 and has since become a favourite for schools and theatre companies around the world. The New York Times praised it as a “bright and cheerful extravaganza” that captures the playful spirit of Dr. Seuss’ works.

Auditions for Seussical are now open by self-tape submission. Full production details, including audition requirements, rehearsal schedules, performance commitments, and submission guidelines, can be found at seussicalmusical.com.au. Audition submissions must close Friday, 2nd February 2025.

Producer, Corey Smark, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming production: “After the success of Stage School Australia’s inaugural production season of The Wizard of Oz in September last year, we are so thrilled to be returning with a family favourite show these April school holidays. We are delighted to be showcasing more of Brisbane’s talents and providing more and more young performers with opportunities to shine.”

Stage School Australia, one of the nation’s leading performing arts schools, is celebrating over 40 years of providing young people with professional-standard performance opportunities. Established in 1984, Stage School Australia now works with more than 6,000 students and talented young performers across both Melbourne and Brisbane. The organisation includes divisions such as The Young Australian Broadway Chorus, Australian Youth Theatre, Beginners OnStage, Australian Boys Dance Academy, Talent Company of Australia, and The Costume + Staging Department. Stage School Australia alumni have gone on to achieve remarkable success in the performing arts industry, with stars like Brianna Bishop (Grease, Hairspray, Midnight), Lyndon Watts (Hamilton, West Side Story, Candide), Samantha Dodemaide (Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Wicked), and James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom, Adoration, Peaky Blinders) among its expansive alumni.

Seussical will run from the 15th – 17th of April 2025 at the Draney Theatre in Ashgrove. Tickets will go on sale from 3rd March 2025. For more information, visit seussicalthemusical.com.au.
