Divas solve first world dilemmas – 12 Songs To Save Your Life

Three Australian music theatre divas, Elise McCann, Marika Aubrey and Johanna Allen, are set to take to the stage at the Supper Club this May for an evening of scintillating cabaret.

In 12 Songs To Save Your Life, the trio’s newly written show (in collaboration with accompanist and arranger Nigel Ubrihien), these three super-voiced songstresses will delve into 12 of life’s ‘first world dilemmas’ and solve them all, through song.

(note: if you have ever wondered where to turn when life’s little problems get the better of you – how to cure a broken heart, where to find those elusive car keys or how to burst a big, fat ego bubble – then you know what a ‘first world dilemma’ is!)

The talented trio will take to the stage with wine glass in hand on Saturday May 5 and Sunday May 6 for two shows at the Supper Club, Sydney.

McCann says the rehearsal and workshop process has been wonderful, with the three women collaborating together in a creative environment.

“We have had rehearsals and writing workshops a few times every week and have been learning little idiosyncracies about each other that are hilarious”, she told AussieTheatre today.

“There are lots of contemporary songs in the show. We have some Beyonce, jazz classics, some R n B and a few music theatre pieces. Basically they are all completely rearranged and revamped with some hectic three part harmony!”, said McCann.

Allen, McCann and Aubrey’s combined theatre credits are formidable, and each are established actor/singers in their own right. The girls have graced the stages on productions such as Wicked, Dr Zhivago, Mamma Mia, Fiddler on the Roof,  I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change, Threepenny Opera and The Last Five Years.

“We’ve structured the show like it’s a chat session between the three of us – with a glass of wine – and we have laughed so much”, she said.

So join these three talented women for a glass (or three) of plonk, and a great night out this May – you won’t regret it!

(For those not in Sydney for the premiere performances this May, never fear: 12 Songs To Save Your Life will be touring  to Melbourne in October)
