Six with Six – Kiana Daniele is Anne of Cleves

Six The Musical is taking the world by storm. Part pop concert and part musical, the show tells the stories of Henry VIII’s wives, and sides of the story that most are not familiar with.

Ahead of the show’s opening, I’m asking SIX questions to all SIX queens.

Today’s queen is Kiana Daniele, who is playing Anne of Cleves. A graduate of the VCA, some of Kiana’s stage credits include The Boy From Oz (The Production Company), Nine (StageArt), Baby in Dirty Dancing (Immersive Cinema), The Drowsy Chaperone (VCA), and Amy in Company (VCA).

Can you tell me a bit about your history with performing?

I have always loved the Arts and remember singing and dancing as a kid, but it didn’t become apparent to me until I was finishing high school that I could potentially pursue it as a career. After high school I trained at Showfit for one year and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre) at VCA. Upon graduating I did a bunch of shows “The Boy From Oz”, “Nine” and “Dirty Dancing” and “SIX” will be my first major musical which is super exciting.

What excites you the most about Six?

The story and the message about the show is what exciteS me most. The female energy and power is something you don’t always see a lot of, and bringing something like that to Australia is just awesome. It is just so different from the shows nowadays and we get to share that with Australia, how cool!

Do you have anything in common with your Queen?

Cleves is brave and she is clever about how to get what she wants. Although I am not dealing with beheadings or losing a kingdom, I would like to think I have a similar bravery to her in terms of knowing who I am and how to go after things I am passionate about.

What’s one thing that people may not know about you?

This year I actually trained to become a yoga instructor, which was very, very cool! Also, I grew up training in gymnastics and waterskiing in Echuca, singing and dancing came much later.

Why do you think people love Six so much?

I think people love Six so much because it is SO different from the shows that are out now, and it doesn’t apologise for it. It explores these incredible women who made history in the coolest way. Imagine learning about Australian history in the form of a pop concert! It is also so uplifting and powerful, you feel strong and proud after seeing it. These women were fighters and they should be celebrated for it!

What did you know about King Henry VIII and his wives before starting on Six?

I am so bad…not much…BUT I did know the general gist of Henry VIII and I knew a bit about Anne Boleyn. I have definitely caught up on my history now!
